I was able to correct my first problem by creating a hunt group as suggested by another user.

Now (and before) the problem is that all calls going through the auto attendant are dropped after 5 rings. The caller hears a message like "The person you are calling is not available. Exiting the system" and it drops the call.

How can I prevent this and let the phones ring indefinately? I do not have any voicemail boxes licensed for the system, so I didn't expect this problem.

You need to switch of the transfer ring back timer. The only problem with doing this is when you transfer a call to another extension it will never recall back to the orignal transfering extension.

When I see a mrmarshall post I hesitate to say anything. The man is GOOD at what he does.
Here is an idea.

Build a second hunt group as the overflow from the first.
Set the overflow on the second to be the first.
Assign both huntgroups to the sets you want to ring forever.

mrmarshall is correct and yes he does know his stuff. The way you said would work if the calls came directly to the Hunt Group and the lines were assigned to that group. But once AA answers the call and Transfers it then it don't matter what you set the Hunt Group at the system sees the call as a Transfer and Transfer Callback has controll.
