BCM 50 & IP 1120E

I am programming a 1120E for the first time. The deafult programming puts the lines and intercom on the first 4 button at the top of the display (2 on each side). The feature is on the left button below the display. Is there a way to change this format? I would like the lines on the bottom and features/internal dials on the top/sides. If not, can I program the lower buttons? They seem to be locked out.

You have only 4 buttons on that phone, by default you have 2 intercom keys on the right side.If you assign lines to that set they will show up on the left side.If you have many lines you better get an IP KEM and assign your lines on it.For the features you can use the service key on the left side just below and put in all the features that your customer will need.

for programming yes. They are used as soft keys

And do you mind defining what a soft key is supposed to do? Reading the book, I understood the soft keys were the programmable keys. Sorry for being dumb, I am just used to the 8X24 and 0X32 systems. This is my Second BCM.

Do you recommend 1 of the phones that has MORE line and programmable keys, kinda like the T7316?

The softkey's feature are changing depending of the status of the phone.If you acces your mailbox they will be used to manage your mailbox,play your messages,record your greeting etc.
If you're on a call, one of the key will become your transfer key, much like any phone on older norstar systems.
Like suggested in my previous post you should get an IP KEM and maybe replace that 1120e for a 1140e.(two more programmable keys.)

You could also make the lines ring only and ring thru the IC keys,That will open the two left keys for features.
