We recently upgraded our system to the BCM 450. We have a manager who wants her phone answered on her assistance desk. That is working fine. The issue is she also wants to have a private line that her family can call on that rings only on her phone. I can't seem to make it just ring on her phone it rings on the assistance's desk as well. Does anyone know how to make it ring on just her phone?

Are you talking about 1 or 2 numbers? If you have the managers number on the assistance phone then of course she is going to be able to answer it. I assume your using DID's? You can make the managers line private to her ext but you won't be able to add it to any other ext once it's private.

You didn't say whether the call would be coming in via analog or digital trunks but I will assume PRI or SIP for now. For it to do what you want you would need to have a separate telephone number where you would program it on a target line and then assign that target to ring and appear on the boss's set.

We have DID lines. The manager has her number published number in the directory that is located on her phone as well as her assistance phone. She wants a line that just rings on her line - how do I make that line private so it doesn't also ring on her assistance's line.

You need to be more clear on what you mean by "ring". If it's ok to have the target line appear on the set, then all you have to do is make the appearance on the assistant's set "appear only". That way when a call comes in for that DID, it will ring on tghe boss;s set but only flash on the assistant's.

Sounds like you just need to introduce a new DID into the picture. You can make it private or just assign it to her ext only, either way it will only ring her ext. This is pretty easy stuff, are you the system administrator.

This is my setup:

The manager's phone has two target lines assigned to it - the first one 2579 is her primary line. The second line is 2575 and that is her private line. Both target lines are listed in the line assignment secton of business element manager. The assistant has the answer DN of 2579 and in the button programming table also has one button configured as answer and the other configured as internal autodial for 2579. This way the assistant can not only answer the phone but see when the manager is on the phone. now when someone calls the manager's private line 2575 it also rings on on the assistant's phone as well. the phone system is a BCM450 - latest version and all patches and we are running VoIP phones i2004.

What you need to do here is remove the answer DN from assistants phone.

Assign the bosses primary DDI as appear and ring on assistants phone.

Assign the bosses private DDI only to the bosses phone.

If the assistant needs to see when boss is on phone, assign a seperate key as internal autodial for bosses DN.

When you have an Answer DN key it does not care what type of line or call that comes to the other set, it will always ring as well.

Answer DN's are truly answering the DN and not the DID/Targets.

Note by removing the Answer DN feature means that internal calls to the boss with not ring assistant set.

Even when I take the DN off the phone it still rings. I now have it set so that the answer DN is off and the target line is put under line assignment. This worked on the older version - BCM 400 but hasn't worked since we upgraded to the latest version.

On the private DDI/target line, try changing the line type from public to DN and set it to DN of the phone.

If the assistance is to answer the intercom also, and answer dn would have to be assigned. If that's the case, then anything that rings on the managers phone, will also ring the assistance answer dn. You cannot do what your waiting with just one phone. The manager would need a separate phone for private calls.

Should not matter what version you have.

If you have Answer DN removed then you need to make sure:
Boss normal Target Line - assigned as Appear and Ring or Ring Only on both sets.
Boss Private Target Line - assigned as Appear and Ring or Ring Only on only the boss's set.

If you still have issue then make the the boss's private target line as Private to the boss's DN.

Making a line private will erase any programming on other sets related to that line.
