Hello all!

I just wanted to check with the rest of you on something. I have a BCM450 that has remote teleworkers working on the system. They're fine as far as calls to and from the system. I was just checking this morning on calling from a remote location to a different remote location and realized, there's no audio. Currently there are only the 7000-7002 UDP and 30000-30999 UDP ports open on the home site router. Is there more required to enable remote set to remote calling?
Thanks!

The ports you have mentioned are correct. Has your router of the BCM been reset?.

Have you asked the remote user to reset their phone in case the problem is at their end?.

Equipment has been reset numerous times. The only problem is with audio between the two remote locations. Both remote sites work fine they just can't talk to each other. Unless the same ports need to be open or other ports at the remote sites?

I have checked out my router today and the following ports are opened as follows for access onto my BCM 50. Please note that there are a few minor differences between the BCM 50 and 450.
The BCM 450 uses UDP 30000 - 30999. Also the BCM Voice RTP Ports = UDP 51000 - 51200 for both versions, but I've reduced the number on my router.

Protocol Port Range Translate To
BCM 50 RTP over UDP = UDP 30000 - 30099 30000 - 30099
BCM Element Manager = TCP 5989 - 5989 5989 - 5989
BCM IP Phone Signal = UDP 7000 - 7002 7000 - 7002
BCM Monitor access = TCP 60001 - 60001 60001 - 60001
BCM RTP Ports = UDP 28000 - 28255 28000 - 28255
BCM Voice RTP Ports = UDP 51000 - 51010 51000 - 51010

I'm working with NAT Transversal on 6.0 and it's my understanding that only the two ranges of ports need to be open and have been open and working for the last few months. It's only the remote site to remote site locations that can't communicate. Is your system a 6.0 with NAT Transversal Keycode or are you on the earlier software versions where you had to open additional ports in order for your external phones to work? Or, are you telling me that entering the additional ports allow for phone to phone traffic although, I've seen previously on perhaps another system or when I deployed VPN tunnels, that it was necessary to create additional tunnels between remote sites or open ports on the routers at the remote sites so that they could talk to each other as the IP voice traffic was direct between the remote sites once the signalling had set the call up between the remote phones?

My office BCM 50 is at release 6.0 with virtually all the features enabled including the NAT Transversal code and I currently have a number of remote IP phone users around the world with phone types such 1140, 2004, 1230, 2050 etc. My router uses NAT and I don't have any VPN.

I'm also trialing a UCX system on the same IP address and for that system, I've used port 7010 for the IP sets as there would have been a conflict.

As you have seen, I've added in other ports that aren't needed, but allow other applications to work. I would try adding in the following ports to see if it improves.

BCM 50 RTP over UDP = UDP 30000 - 30999 30000 - 30999
BCM IP Phone Signal = UDP 7000 - 7002 7000 - 7002
BCM RTP Ports = UDP 28000 - 28255 28000 - 28255
BCM Voice RTP Ports = UDP 51000 - 51010 51000 - 51010

You could also see if the "Stun Server" needs to be enabled. Some systems need it added in. There may also be other changes required on your router. Some of them have the prompt "SIP ALG" that needs to be ticked or even unticked.

I've found in a number of cases that the router is the main problem. Contact me off line if you need any more help.
