If you purchase the BCM 400 Upgrade authorization to upgrade to a BCM 450, does the programming come over from the 400 to the 450 or do you need to repogram the system from scratch?

The BCM450 is a new Hardware Chasis
You take out your MBMs from the old system and transfer them to the new system.
Get you lic file with the liciences transferred from the bcm400.
Then programme it from scratch.

You wiil have to send back the bcm400 to nortel as part of the upgrade.

BCM450 can go upto 300 extns and 120 pri lines.
All the facilites of bcm50 rel3
message forwarding to email etc..

Disadvantage is ...same as bcm50..once the harddrive goes you loose the lot. extns and voicemail

im not sure but the BCM rls5 supposedly can do this. this is a quote on the documentation.

"Furthermore, as part of the new migration capabilities, a new tool called the Data Migration Manager (DMM) is introduced coincident with BCM Rls 5.0 – this tool provides configuration data conversion from a BCM200/400/1000 Rls 4.0 system to a BCM Rls 5.0 system"

the BCM rls5 is has a lot of features. IVR, redundant PS/HDD, mobile twinning type feature, and presence. not sure if its now available though

firebird the biggest advantage to the upgrade is not having to repurchase the keycodes that are already active on the 400. Not sure what kind of a trade in Nortel gives if there happen to be no codes involved.

After the migration of the keycodes, you'll have to return the MSC card from the 400 to Nortel or they'll send you a bill for the migrated keycodes. Just like replacing a bad MSC and migrating the keycodes. You can get a MSC without keycodes from Nortel at repair cost to replace the one you returned.

Hello Guys

Thanks for giving me the reasons to "upgrade" to a 450. I still think it's bad of Nortel to call it an upgrade, when to have to rebuild it from scratch.

All the best

Has anyone got any info on the release 5, if checked all through the PIC and can't find anything.

There is information on BCM 5.0 in the "Pre-Release" section of PIC. You need sufficient access privilegest to see it.

Thanks gwebster,

Tried the pre-release section of the PIC but there's nothing there on 5.0

I'm not important enough. . . .

BCm Rls 5 also supposedly has option to migrate keycoded features between two BCM 50's or between two BCM 450's

Not sure if this si somethign a dealer has to do or the customer can if the two BCMs are networked....

Had a look through a Powerpoint today on RLS5, there's a migration tool to convert a 200/400 database to a 450. The BCM50 is simply an upgrade.

To upgrade a 200/400 to a 450 you replace the BFT, basically the part with the Network ports on, it appears that if you upgrade a 200 to a 450 you then obviously only have two MBM slots?? They must be assuming you are deploying IP Handsets.

They will also migrate your existing key codes and as above you can run the database through the tool and re-apply.

Are you sure you just replace the BFT.
There is no MSC card so how do you connect the module ribbon cables.

The 450 itself is a complete new hardware chassis

I'm only thinking in terms of how the 450 system is built now.
Maybe they have developed a method of using existing hardware chassis thus saving money.

Sorry, in very small text it also says "Insertion of new Chassis interface board required. Leaves no cable connections to removable tray (easier maintenance)

any one know where release 5 info is on nortel.com can not find it anywhere except document referring to training.

If its not broke tweak it..
