Alright, my BCM 400 is doing a lot of weird stuff. At first, i couldnt log into the manager using any username, but i could log into the BRU or the voice mail manager via the webserver fine. Telnet access was fine too. I rebooted the BCM via telnet and, starting then, i couldnt access the webserver anymore. Telnet didnt worked anymore. I can ping the BCM fine. I tried with both LAN port and i can ping them without any problem, but no webserver or telnet.

Voice mail is still working.

Talked to my reseller, he told me the HD could be on the way of failing. Ghosted it onto another drive, didnt worked (well, it didnt fixed the problems, but everything else was working fine). I chkdsk /r 'ed the drive, no success.

Com via COM port doesnt work. The global function works fine, same with VMail. Some phones lost button config but that's it.

So... Anyone got an idea?

I thought of plugin a PCI vid card inside (theres none right now) to check if apache and telnet services were down, but i'm not quite sure if any card can do. Any clue on that?

What version BCM? Have u tried rebooting? Is it fully patched? Are the LEDs flashing? What color are the capacitors on the BFT?

Good news....theres a video card built in. Its hiding behind the plastic cover on front of BFT. Theres video, keyboard and mouse back there. Not sure what your gonna see though. After initial boot up, kinda goes to a blue screen and seems to freeze there. However I'm certain things are still happening in the back ground. Anywho...Lets re-look at that drive option??? If you ghosted the drive, all your doing is copying over to the other drive any/all problems that are on the 1st one....bad idea. I think your reseller meant for you to get a fresh drive, re-profile it, re-patch it and I bet your problems will go away. I find drive to be about 75% of problems. Hope that helps some...

Version should be 3.5. So quite old. Yup, i rebooted it plenty of times and power cycled it too. The board was replaced not that long ago, and the lights are doing what they usually do.

Indeed, i ghosted the drive so it's probably the configuration. I wanted to plug a monitor to see if it wasnt simply Apache and Telnet services that are down. I have backups of working configs (both on drive and on network) so i'd only be able to access the BRU to fix it i guess, which is why i want to turn apache on.

Will post more on my effort later i guess, heading back there to mess with it while nobody is @ work.

Alright, not much to say spare that yes, you can add a pci card, but it's as useless as the onboard one. They probably disabled graphic display past the start. I will check the files to see if there isnt anything that could help.

Anyway, problem is the same. Lights are ok, just can't access the webserver or telnet. Some odd thing happened tho... I kept HyperTerminal on while working on the BCM. As i said before, i didnt worked before, but i forgot to hangup... Anyway, i did several reboots, trying several cards and both the standard and the maintenance OS and after maybe the 3rd or the 4th, i see on my laptop : "User name".

I couldnt type in tho, so i thought "maybe it jams after a while". Did several test and it appears that, sometimes (about 1 reboot on 3 attempt), and only on the main OS, i'm getting a signal from my COM port. But even if i try typing as soon as the login request appear, nothing work.

I do am using 9600 8-N-1 VT100 so that isnt the issue (i know this usually works). My guess is that the telnet service shutdowns as soon as it starts. No clue why...

As i don't have much time to spare on this anymore, i'll just call my reseller and see what he'll do, but i'll keep you guys informed. (especially about the whole graphic card thing...)

The version of Java needed on the old BCM's is 1.5 or 1.6

Try the older version first as it could be that simple. The BCM3.5 won't work right with a new version of Java.

I am still running the old version of Java. The problem is not getting into the menus, but getting into the server. I get no response from the Apache server on the BCM.

Some people have been able to use the dialup networking on the BCM and reset the server that way. Give that a try and see what happens.

Were you doing any updates or anything to the BCM before all this happened? Sometimes during an update or whatever the FTP server crashes and when you reboot the files are still there and try to run unless they are cleared from starting up.

Did you recently do an upgrade or imaging? did you say 3.5 ?If it is, I believe the problem lies with some lock-out code which the BCm's run if they're a bit old..you need to get the bcm.cer file and the server.cer file upgraded through a certain process ....let me know ok if you haven't got this fixed as yet....

Guitartech : No, i didnt do any updates before it "crashed". I will try connecting via the modem once i check the doc on it.

Joezzz : Indeed, 3.5 and the problem is not fixed, altho, a tech from my reseller is coming next week when we can find a hole in our respective schedule. I wouldnt mind fixing it now tho ;)

you need to run the apache file recovery and replace the bcm.cer and the server.key files ...search the nortel database you will definitely find the file and pdf doc there...

Were you talking about the Apache Data Backup in the BRU? I can't access the BRU as Apache isnt loading.

I may be asking something you already sataed above, But I'm just checking.

When you connect do you get the main menu?

Do any of the menu items work, like Maintence?

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

No

I can ping the bcm fine, Voice Mail works, but i can't access the webserver or hyperterminal it.

well you need to get the apache recover pdf doc from nortel and the two files to have it repaired server.key and bcm.cer files ... i'll try to get you a link...later

LUF.... when you're ready for the files give me a time and date preferably eastern time (US) and i'll drop them on an ftp site for you
