I have a BCM 400 4.0 with 3 PRI cards and 3 32 ext DSM cards. All 96 digital stations are in use and 23 ip sets are in use. I've ran into two very different problems. The first is that one of the digital extensions has stopped working. The phone will boot fine, display the date and time, it knows its extension but will no longer pick up a dial tone. Tested the phone and the wiring and both check out. The DN now shows up as inactive and I'm not sure what do do from here.
The second problems happens from time to time when the whole system restarts after reporting an Alarm ID:52006 EMS event connection lost from MSM: MPS service aborted. From there the whole system starts to restart over the course of 10 minutes.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Item 1: try disabling/enabling the port? Trying swapping w/ a known working set, if it works then the problem is the set. If not try a different port.

Item 2: Is the system up to date w/ the latest patches?

1: I have swapped sets with the same results. Is there a way to disable/enable the port its riding on in element manager?

2: I'm running version 4.0.2.03a right now. We've been hesitant to run the updates lately due to heavy call volume coming in.

Thanks!

Load patches outside of business hrs.

How many pec cards do u have?

Yes u can disable a port in EM. Go to Resources choose the DSM ur using and it should bring up all the ports. select the one ur using. U could also move the problem set to another port and then do a DN change.

we are going to load the patches tomorrow.

The BCM has 4 PEC cards installed.

I tried disabling/re-enabling the port on that DSM with no results. All DSM extension are in use so I cant move to another spot. The extension still has no dial tone but will display date and time, which extension it is and will call out. You cannot hear voice through it and it will not ring.

Thanks for the help so far!

Could be a bad DSM port or a bug in the system. Reboot the BCM.

one more thing. I was wrong about the amount of PEC cards. There are 2 PEC cards total.

we were able to fix the bad DSM port by power cycling the BCM. I havent been able to patch the system due to service contract issues... and now nobody seems to be home at Nortel, perhaps their bankruptcy is to blame. At any rate I cant download the needed patches.
Am I having MSM failures because I have 2 PEC cards with 3 pri's and 96 digital extension?

I guess my next question would be can I install more PEC cards or is the BCM 400 already set two PEC's and no hope of expansion.

when I look at the PEC slots in BCM monitor it looks as though they never have tasks loaded. One slot will usually have G.711 tasks and the other slots sit there. Is this normal or does the Media card section of BCM monitor have a slow refresh rate.

Don't know. I actually just wanted to see my new signature.

You could have one bad PEC. Get 2 more and fill all slots then see if all have tasks loaded.

Under software inventory what are the most current patches you have applied...
