I've got a BCM 400 4.0 and am having a hell of a time with it. I get these series of errors:
52006 Critical **ERROR** Receive EMS_EVENT_CONNECTION_LOST from MSM;MPS service aborted.
50064 Critical The Media Path Management sub-system unexpectedly became offline - terminating
63005 Critical Mgs:: Shutting down due to MPS communication failure
53004 Critical Mgs:: Shutting down due to MSM communication failure.

I'm running 3 PRI cards 3 DMS 32's and 32 IP sets. The system is running a 6/2 split full DD. I did not set up the machine and there is no service contract at this time. This unfortunately gives me no way to download patches. I'm running realease 4.0.2.03a.
The BCM will warm reboot after all the errors. The TDM sets come back online quickly but the IP sets take about 10 minutes to come back online.
I've been going through the system to try and find anything that could be wrong. I noticed that all 3 PRI's are assigned to blocA and all DN's are assigned to that block as well. I also noticed that one DTM is clocked internal while the others are clocked Primary External and Secondary External. However I never see any PRI problems in the logs.
I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any suggestions for trouble shooting? I'm starting to become concerned that the MSC is faulty. Thanks in advance.

I'd power down the system and remove the hard disk. I use a IDE / SATA to USB connecter to check the state of the disk from another computer. I would also check with a meter the power voltages.

Finally I would check out the capacitors to see they are leaking or split etc. Usually it's old old Green ones, however it's worth a check. Also check for any build up of muck and dust.

A number of my customers have systems that have had to be cleaned out with a vacuum, This included removal of the media bay modules and most or all of the major components.

There isn't a quick answer to your problem, except to follow these recomendations and other suggestions that members may wish to add in.

Also can you send me a list of the current patches please?.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

looking at my config I have noticed that the DTM may be have the clock source wrong. The DTM in bus 7 is set as secondary external. The DTM in bus 6 is set as internal. Finally the DTM in bus 5 is set as Primary external. Does anyone know if this is correct, or even matters. Thanks.

Open BCM Monitor to see if there are enough resource available: signaling, Media Gateway, because you have 32 ip sets.

if you are in the limit, so change split 2/6 to 3/5
if you are using bus 7, so you will have relocate this bus to take 3/5 split.
Then, modified the resource to 32 Signaling channels and Media Gateway

DSM 32s are on buses 2,3,4 PRI's are on 5,6,7

I'm at 46 of 59 signaling channels. As more people use lines on the voip sets the media gateways go up. Starts at 4 and goes up to how ever many people are on calls over Voip. Media channels stay at 4 of 59. voice bus stays at 6 of 62 and DSP resources stay at 6 of 128
