I have asked 10 people this question and no one is sure of the answer. Does anyone know what happens if you do not turn off the BCM 400 when adding an expansion cabinet as per Nortel install guide. Since it is an rj45 connection would it not recognize it like an MICS recognizes a station module when plugged into a expansion card.

Sometimes it will find the cards in the cabinet, and sometimes it won't. I've done it before, and most of the time it will find the cards in the expansion and start working. I'd try that before telling the customer that you need to shut down their system.

About same thing here, when adding expansion cabinet i install the expansion, put the MBM's in,amphenols etc.. then the RJ45 to the bcm and then power on. Always worked.

Agreed.

There is the slight possibility that you won't have synchronization between the cabinets, but so far I've never had that problem.
Follow gbergers advice and make powering on the expansion your last step and it'll work like a charm.
