I’m more of a CICS/MICS guy with some networking knowledge. I’m trying to migrate a customer from the MICS to the BCM platform. I have sites A,B,C,D with a MPLS network in place for the data side (1.5Mbps to each site) My idea is to install a BCM 400 at site A using their existing T series digital sets and utilize the MPLS network for IP phones at sites B,C,D. The total number of IP phones will be approximately 60. Do I have the correct idea on this, or will this high number of IP phones eat up too much bandwidth on the MLPS network? If so, what are my options?

It should be fair amount of traffic. We currently have voice T-1’s to each site that are being utilized in the realm of 10 – 20%. Part of the plan is to have sites B,C,D Telco traffic moved over to Site A’s voice T-1, then out to the remote sites via the MPLS

With that many phones at each site, I would recommend a 400 at the main site with PSTN access. Then bcm 50's at each remote site with digital phones and IP trunks to the 400. That way you can use the more functional, and cheaper digital phones at each site, and connect an analog line at each 50 site for 911.

Using 3x5 resources, you have 91 channels max. In theory, it is doable with 60 Ip sets as you have to use some channels for VM .

This kept me awake last night. Lets see if I have the right idea.
First, Can the IP Trunks work across the MPLS? Can all voicemail/ AA reside in the BCM 400?

Site A = BCM 400 w/ Voice T-1 for all sites, reach out via MPLS with IP Trunks to sites B,C,D which have BCM 50’s
All sites can have a mix/match of Digital or IP phones

Inbound calls to the 400 for sites B,C,D are routed via IP Trunks to the appropriate site. Outbound calls for all sites originate from the 400.

Your completely correct. VoIP trunks no problem over MPLS. Yes, Centrlalized Vmail wirh AA. Plus, POTS lines at BCM50s for backup and 911.
