Let me start out by saying that I have installed about 10 BCM's all types but I have been a Nortel Tech. for 13 yrs. doing Norstar & Option work but I am finding myself doing more with BCM's lately.I am going after a new customer that I am proposing a 400 to and they have 5 sites they do not want to go with 50's at the remote sites they just want the 400 at the main site and VoIP phones at the other locations, making it seem like one big system.I have many questions so I'll start here how much bandwidth is needed per IP phone and do I need to set up VPN's per site or can I just use static IP's, there will be a total of approx. 50 to 60 IP's like 10-15 per location.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Bandwidth is dependent on codec chosen (a g.711 call will use about 90kbps each way including overhead). VPN is the way to go between sites. If you attempt to do this on the public, it will not work as anticipated and the customer will be dissatisfied, guaranteed.

Bear in mind that the users at the sites will not be able to dial 911 on their IP phones and will need to have local lines in place to accommodate that.

also remember 911 is an issue and if the network drops so do the ip sets

Why would 911 be an issue if the IP sets are sharing the same T-1 as the digital sets?

same reason why skype doesnt 'support' 911.
911 is a location based service ... an IP Client is not location specific (once setup an ip phone can work pretty much 'anywhere')

If you have a BCM in New York and you use a VPN tunnel to extend IP sets to Chicago off of than BCM, if a user on the IP sets dials 911 where is her going to get PSTN from? Right! The BCM in New York...so where is EMS going to answer?

Do you see the issue?
