Hi..i am trying to set up a ip phone from the outside. My bcm 400 is on its own external ip. i entered the info into the phone. i have liscenses and i can connect to bcm monitor and element manager from the outside. my phone says new phone registration disabled. the docs say to look under telephony resources then ip sets and enable global setting in element manager. well i am using 4.0.2.03a . i have telephony global settings.i have looked at every tab and i do not see anything about enable registration at all.

going off memory i think that you need to go under IP terminal which is a tab to click on and you will see how to turn on the regs. from there type in a pswd something easy like 1234, set keep dn alive, and auto assign dn, all under the same IP terminal drop box...you can't miss it. So when this is sey up when your IP set comes up it will ask for a PSWD so just type in 1234 and that baby should boot up...

I agree with norstarboy, but will add a caution, don't use auto assign dns, it's no big deal to pick your own. You can actually program the set in advance, so when you enter the DN you want the sets already programmed.

If you let the system pick your DN, you can be in a world of hurt, especially if you have a Contact Center.

Yes it's better to assign a permenant DN.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Joshk,

A little off your topic but I have a question for you. If your BCM is on its own external IP address, how are your internal IP phones connecting to the BCM???

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

If you set a default gateway on IP phone, then you can assign external BCM IP to the IP sets, ensure the port is unblocked fot IP phone.

ok i did do the auto dn thing but no big deal i can unredister dn and assign one in setup. i figured the bcm would pick what was best. i have only deployed 3.
as for the external ip i have it assigned to lan1 and an internal for lan2. we have no ip sets inhouse. all are remote.few issues getting them out though. problems with no intercom tone at times, no all call pages received only the page tone. one set can receive calls and intercom calls. but one the handset is picked up can not hear anything. via handset or speaker. the caller on the other side can hear the ip set user. just cannot be heard. really impressed initially by them. not dependable enough yet to do actual bussiness with yet as far as receiving live calls. works fine to connect to office personnel most of the time. still working on it

I have almost same issue with my client, the remote office IP sets has no dial tone and hear nothing when make phone calls, the other end can hear. The remote office uses VPN tunnel to headofice which has BCM.
