Have BCM 400 4.0 where hard drive failed. Going to order another. Have changed Element Manager password. When I replace hard drive will password remain or will it default back to PlsChgMe! Also. When I get new Hard Drive. Could I use Acronis to make copy to similar hard drive so could have back up. Realize won't have programming and also realize probably not "supported" Curious.

So I take it that the keycodes and SYS ID don't reside on the hard drive? I still have three 400 4.0 boxes that have been running for ten years or more with no failures, so they could be overdue. Where do you get the software to reimage onto the new drives?

Thanks, Jim

The SYSID is not on the hard drive, but the keycodes are.

Once you install the HD you need to patch the system then load the key codes you hopefully have on file/paper then restore programming from a backup if you have one.

There is all kinds of software on the web to image or backup drives.
Most of us like Acronis

OK. Apologize if this are simple questions, but you guys have my mind going. Basically curious on best practices should be doing in order restore customer if hard drive should fail. Have clients with varying releases.
1-BCM 3.7. Don't even know how to backup on those. Don't really care at this point.
2-BCM 400 4.0. If have backup, shouldn't I be able to load onto new hard drive and restore programming, keycodes and voicemails from that backup? Or do I actually need keycode file?
3-BCM 450 6.0. Have backup. If replace hard drive, shouldn't I be able to upload backup?

Also on BCM 450 6.0. One customer we inherited when current installer disappeared. We didn't do install. Don't have keycode file. Looked around in documentation and couldn't get clarification so going to ask. If click on "Download Credit Proof File" is that actually copy of the Keycode File that we could Load should we not have backup and have to program from scratch?

All Linux versions such as the BCM 400 4.0 and all 50/450 systems will have the keycode file contained within the backup file called licensefile.txt. Use a zip program such as WinRAR etc. I tend to make all my backups have the file extension of *.tar son that WinRAR sees it OK.

There are a number of Disk Image tools around and I use a mixture of Acronis or WinHex etc, but I'm sure others are just as good. Avaya images tend to work best with Acronis 2010 or 2014 for Windows 10 users.

It's best to keep images spare and you can be clever if you have a particular release already patched up to date and therefore saves time when reloading a failed system.
