I have a customer with a BCM 400 4.0. The initial report from them was that the FAN lights went red and there were fan alarms present. I replaced the fan and the alarm has never returned but the red fan light still present. Just to make sure not any patch fix issue I updated to the latest SU patches in the system, no fix. We then replaced the Power supply and also now the BFT in case the issue was coming from the internal FAN and still the red fan light is on but no alarms in the system.

Any suggestions on this?

When you log into the BCM, did you go to the Alarm section and reset the LED's?. Also did you check what alarms or events were showing other than the FAN ones?.

Yes we had already performed reset LED's and all rest but the fans. No alarms pertaining to fan or relative to something that might effect the fan in the system.

I know this might sound odd, but have you used the BCM Monitor tool to check on the CPU usage and other settings?. If they all look OK, you might be lucky in leaving the problem alone, assuming that the unit isn't getting hot.

Yes all monitor statistics read normal. No temp alarms anywhere. I would love to leave this one alone but the customer does not. We have 200 BCM's with them across the US and these lights have been a simple pain in the rear. I just cannot fathom what else could cause it besides some crazy connection. You would think the P/S, BFT or FAN's themselves would have covered all that as the BFT controls those light connections, the power supply runs it and the fans....well they blow.

Is it the correct replacement fan?

When you say you reset LED's did it work for that moment or not at all?

Corruption maybe since all hardware was replaced.

Have you tried any Restores or Level resets?
Be interesting to know if it works on a fresh defaulted hard drive.

What I would do is to connect up a serial cable onto the front of the BCM and capture the data during the power up sequence. I did a guide recently on this for the BCM 50 systems, but I'm certain that it applies to all Linux based BCM models.

You can stop the boot up and test the fans. Whilst booting up, you can also see the services start.

Check the link and let me know please?.

Yes correct fan was used.

I will attempt a serial connected boot and if I see nothing I will attempts a restore prior to the issue coming about.

Thanks for the input, I will update if I have a solution.

I've had this on a BCM 400 before. Fan light red with zero issues and an OEM fan. Sat here staring at it for quite some time just to make sure. Installed it anyway and although the light is red, haven't run into any issues.
