Hi,

We currently have a BCM400 4.0 with SU-20 applied and shortly we will be integrating this with another non Nortel PBX which will be handling all calls via the ISDN and the BCM will be connected using the QSIG protocol via the PRI. There is also another small BCM 50 connected to the 400 via IP Trunks using the 7000 DN range.

The problem we have is that the BCM400 is setup in a 3 digit extension configuration and this is causing a number of issues. These are: -

1. We have a number of DDI ranges and we would like to match the last 4 digits of the DDI to the DN however these are in the 4, 6 & 8 range, but this causes an issue since the BCM400 has DN's in the 2,3,4,5 & 6 ranges so using the DN's for the 4 & 6 range cannot be used. I guess they could be used on the new PBX, but then you would have the problem of not being able to call that DN from a phone on the BCM.

2. Calls will be handled via the new PBX and forwarded to the BCM400 via a lookup table, if the DDI matches it forwards to the DN however this requires me to replace the Public Received number (existing DDI) with the DN of the extension. However the target line setup on the BCM is a bit of a mess and during some testing I have found that an error is displayed when entering the DN in the public received number due to it being used elsewhere, so this means that I am going to have to go through all target lines anyway and tidy these up, which I can see taking some time.

3. With the new PBX being in the 8000 range, this doesn't allow us any other ranges to use with new sites in the future.

So I was thinking about the possibility of renumbering the DN's from 3 to 4 digits, as this may be quicker and be a better job in the long run, however I'm not sure how to go about this or what effect doing this will have.

I have noticed an option to "renumber" under All DN's screen but I don't know what exactly this does since I cannot find anything in the documentation about this. If this could be used, could the hunt groups be changed as well? Also, there is an option to "Move Voice Mail Boxes" so I assume that there wouldn't be a problem here?

Has anyone tried this sort of thing in the past or has any tips, advise or thoughts about the different options we have?

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,
There is an option to change DN length from 3 to 4 digits but remember that Voicemail is a seperate application and once the digit length is changed it will NOT change in Call Pilot.
As you are considering a major clean-up of the target lines and an overhaul of your number change, have you considered a cold reset and build the system from new?

I have a different problem but somewhat the same. I'm on a BCM 400 and I have two T7208 phones collected from old users. I want to give a new users a new DN but the old DN on the phone appears. I know it the "Set relocation" but I don't know if I must disable that at the BCM or on the device. Either way I do not know how.

Make backups of everything, electronic and handwritten.

Cold system reboot, select DID template and input new DN range.

Double check everything documented in your notes after reboot.

Just using the option to change DN length will probably cause more trouble than it's worth in the long run due to potential numbering conflicts in the dialing plan.
