Customer has a 4.0 BCM400 and He wants desktop faxing. Our sales department says we can't buy the keycodes from Avaya for the 400 because of an EOL issue.

Where can I get desktop messaging keycodes and is the Desktop faxing for the 400 compatible with the latest version of Outlook?

I'm pretty certain you can order licensing until the end of March 2012. As far as Outlook goes, you can use it with 2010. I don't know if its included in the desktop SU for 4.0, but the client that comes on the 450s and 50s will work.

Avaya has extended the BCM EOL to October-2012.
What version of the 400 do you have?

Thanks for the answers, it is a 4.0 release

Does anyone know what Avaya's announced EOL is on the BCM50 and the BCM450?

They sent something out a couple of years ago with a projected EOL, but I can't recall what it is...

Was originally March 2012 but has been extended to October 2012.

if the 450 is EOL, what would you recommend for a new installation that will program like the BCM and interface well with an existing 450?
Since i am familar with BCM programming, i would like our vendor to install something similar if a 450 not avaialble.

The official Avaya replacement system is the IP Office.

They have released cards that will run the older Nortel digital phones (most of them) and software that will interface with the IP sets and replicate some of the old button behaviours.

The IP Office was an existing product from Avaya so it's not the same for programming the system. It does not trace it's heritage back to Nortel. You will not find anything that follows the old methodology that Nortel used for programming. But that can be a good thing, the long legacy of Norstar programming isn't always the best way to do things in the modern world.

There is an alternative solution from E-Metro Tel called the UCx that will allow you to keep using Nortel phones using the BCM50 hardware as an interface to their more open standard SIP based system. I believe that their gateway software is based off the open source Asterisk software. It's hard to find much info on this solution. It's new, the company is small, and the installed base isn't really there yet.

I think many of us are curious about the E-Metro Tel gateway system as a means to upgrade an existing BCM50. I'm strongly considering getting one of their systems for research and testing.
