What is the required speed needed to support IP phones in remote locations? I have a BCM 400 in main office and one site that currently has 1 ip phone working fine. Looking to add on another site with 5 phones.
 
depends on the codec you are using. sure values to calculate with are: 90kbps for G711 and 36kbps for G729
 
This figure is "per simultaneous conversation" -- in other words, it's for each phone that is engaged in a conversation. Be sure to calculate these values in each direction -- transmit and receive.
 
thats right. and it also depends on the wan connection you're using. each type of wan connection (like frame relay, adls, etc..) has different header-sizes. this will also make your packets bigger or smaller.
