I have a customer with a BCM 400 3.7 after doing a power down to add a expansion cabinet the system lights just kept flashng, we powered down again added a keyboard and monitor. We received a message that said "smart failure dectected press f1 to continue" We continued and the system came up noramlly, from what i can find out, it seems this is a maxtor warning message saying that the hard drive could fail soon. I recieved a replacement hard drive from my vendor. What is the best way to replace it, in the past ive tryed to preform a backup which is next to impossible on 3.7. Anyone have any luck doing a backup on 3.7? Or my idea was to clone the hardrive using norton ghost, any one ever have success doing that? Thank you

Backing up is easy. Back up to a network share or FTP. Install the new drive. re-apply your keycodes. Patch the unit to the SAME LEVEL it was at when you took the backup. Restore the Backup (Voice Apps and Telephony ONLY).

That's it. SHouldn't take more than a few hours.

Just to be on the saft side, check the BFT to see if the CAPs are Green (BAD) or Blue (GOOD), bad CAPs can cause that problem.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I have had great luck cloning up to 3.7 using Norton Partition Magic. Easy and Fast.

Key codes are tied to the MSC not the HD.
No problem backing up a 3.7.
When you replace the HD you initialize the HD via the BCM serial port.
