We currently have two sites trunked using H323, one with BCM 400 (3.7) and the other with BCM 200 (3.7). We are opening a new office with about 5 users. We thought about simply dropping a BCM 50 in there and trunk the same way, but we would like to move toward taking advantage of some unified communication features of something like Microsoft OCS down the road. We would also like to be able to take advantage of local SIP trunking at our branch offices to do some least cost call routing.
Do I need to upgrade the BCM 400/200's to release 5.0 if I want to have reliable SIP trunking to voip providers? If I manage to find a BCM 50 for the new office, and use that for the time being, can we use a more generic SIP phone (grandstream/polycom/etc) with that so we do not have to replace those phones down the road?
I know this is pretty vague, but if anyone has experience with something similar, would love to hear your thoughts.
