Can I upgrade a BCM 3.5 to 4.0 without first upgrading to 3.7. I do not want to preserve the customer database.

No, you have to go to 3.6 or 3.7 first.
But you won't loose any programming.

Is a Demo box we use in our lab so the programing I dont care about. I just don't want to come out of my pocket for 3.6 or 3.7 keycode. So thehe is no way no how to do this right.

There is a way if you have a BCM4.0 ghost image you could just re-image your lab machine. By the way: upgrades from 3.5 to 3.6 or 3.7 are for free. Just ask your distributor.

I thought you had to run through the 4.0 upgrade process in order to get the keycodes to convert. I believe when you generate the upgrade keycode against KRS it generates a new keycode file for the 4.0 system.

3.7 upgrades have a cost associated with it, at least here in the states.

With the upgrade kit I got from Nortel a software upgrade authorization code came with it to generate a new keycodeI dont think I could regenerate form the 3.5 box.

Things to do:
1. Enter upgrade auth code (3.5->3.7) in KRS. (If you don't have an upgrade auth-code, just let me know, i got some left...)
2. Upgrade BCM to 3.7
3. Enter upgrade auth-code (3.7->4.0) in KRS and download the new keycode-file.
4. Upgrade BCM to 4.0. You will be asked for the new keycode-file during the upgrade process.

I opened A case with Nortel and this is the response I got back. Does anyone knows if that correct. If not whats a work arround this issue.

The following e-mail is from Nortel Technical Support
engineer, Charles Hasty Jr, regarding case number 061023-21042,
titled 'Tele-Automation, Inc.: BCM 200 3.5: needs upgarde keycode'.

Hi Jason,

Yes, you will need to purchase the 3.6 upgrade feature and then upgrade from a 3.6 to 4.0 feature.

Chuck Hasty

What he's saying is, you need to get the 3.6 upgrade first. It's free from a good Vendor. Then you can upgrade to 4.0.

I upgraded all 60 of my BCM's to 3.6 for free. my Vendor gave them to me.

10 were 2.5
30 were 3.0
15 were 3.5
and the rest were already 3.6 when I bought them.

By the way: it makes no difference if you go to 3.6 or 3.7 before upgrading to 4.0.
Both (3.6 and 3.7) can be upgraded to 4.0

steeef, How can I go about getin a auth code from you.

please post your email address and i'll send you the auth-code.

How Can I get arround this issue when installing the upgrade. It prompts me with this "upgrade could not determine expiry. please contact support for resolution.

Change the Date on your system back about 1 year and it should work, there was a time limit to use them. I have set the Date back, done the upgrade and then reset the date/time back to the correct date.
