Can anyone give me some direction on how to perform a universal profile to sync with the MSC card after a 4.0 hard drive has been installed on a new system. Thanks

I have this bit of info for you.

BCM 4.x (Linux) Hard Drive Info

1. Power off BCM and remove existing hard drive.
2. Install New Hard drive and power up the BCM.
3. Leave the BCM for approx. 20 minutes to install (there is no user intervention required i.e. no “Universal Profile” as with the BCM3.x platform.)
4. After the 20 min period connect to the BCM with Element Manager.
5. Set the system Time Zone and Time and Date.
6. Enter your keycodes *
* If the system was previously a BCM 3.x system you will need to obtain a BCM 4.0 Upgrade authcode.
These authcodes will need to be generated on the Nortel Keycode Retrieval System using your system ID to enable you to obtain the LIC File containing your keycodes. The keycode generation is normally done via the Nortel Keycode website.

Firebird Scrambler,

Thank you for the reply, I needed to add one more part to the equation. This hard drive was imaged off of a different BCM. Could not get the access code for the system I need the new hard drive to end up in. Any suggestions?

As far as I know, you can't Image off another system. Except for a day one factory image (Which I have for 3.7 "7 Gigs Zipped" & 4.0 "4.8 Gigs zipped") I used a program called Winhex to do it.

We have done that quite a few times on 3.X, since you could do a universal profile to re-sync with the MSC card. So on 4.0 what happens if you have to change out the MSC card? How do you bring them back together? When the hard drive is reinstalled into the system I want it in, it acts flaky, but does come online. Thanks for the help.

That's correct. The 3.x versions could be reimaged & then re input in the keycodes. At 4.0 release, you only have one Keycode to use & it's a *.lic file. I've got a guide on imaging BCM systems if you want to contact me via my web site. Go to the bottom of the home page. Don't leave any email address'son this forum!.
