BCM 32DSI MBM Question

Will a older 32 DSI MBM work fine in a new BCM 400, Release 4.0? Any issues that I may run into? Also- If I am replacing an older 1000 with a new 400, is there anyway to salvage the keycodes and move them to the new system? I am not a distributor, and will be purchasing the system from a reseller.

A 32 DSI will work, but will use up two DS-30 loops.

I attached the text from a bulliten that outlines the procedure to move keycodes from a BCM1000 to a BCM200/400. You need to buy a 'migration keycode'. You'll also have to send the old MSC card back to Nortel after this is completed.

Introduction
Keycodes are licensed to the BCM customer for use on only one BCM system and cannot
be replicated.
Currently Nortel supports the regeneration of enabled keycodes from one system to another
for support purposes only, ie to restore a customer to service. This bulletin is being
published to inform Partners of a new service to allow the transfer of software licenses to
enable migration of BCM applications from one system to another within the same BCM
product family for a given customer.
Service Description
Nortel has received many inquiries from customers requesting an increased level of
investment protection when upgrading to a new BCM platform in an existing site, especially
with the BCM1000 platform reaching end of life status as of December 31, 2006 (see Clarify
Bulletin 2006007435)
As such, Nortel is pleased to announce a service that includes development of a new
Keycode Migration/Regeneration portal and an associated Application Migration
Authorization Code. This new service and capability is intended to allow an existing
customer to migrate their enabled keycodes to a more current platform for a transfer fee,
represented in the price of the "Application Migration Authorization Code".
This solution allows migration of purchased software licenses from any BCM1000, BCM200
or BCM400 to another BCM1000, BCM200 or BCM400 system. The benefits of this
enhanced level of investment protection can now be combined with the recently announced
second half 2007 “My Business” SMB incentive programs that include attractive rebates on
the purchase of a new BCM system. For example, a customer wishing to migrate from an
End of Life BCM1000 platform can now purchase a new BCM200 or BCM400 system and

the new Keycode Migration Authorization Code, thereby qualifying for a lump sum program
rebate on the new system while preserving their previous investment in enabled keycodes.
This also provides Nortel distribution partners with an exciting opportunity to renew the
installed base to currently supported hardware and software consistent with current
Lifecycle Management policies.

The solution entails purchasing an Application Migration authorization keycode via standard
catalog ordering procedures, and utilizing this keycode in conjunction with KRS to provide
regeneration of application capabilities between BCM systems.
Restrictions and Limitations
While the service will transfer/regenerate keycode capabilities on the destination BCM
system, standard backup and restore procedures will be required to ensure system
programming can be replicated on the destination system. Note that backup and restore is
only supported within the same BCM software release.
Nortel is evaluating the extension of this service to include migrations between BCM50
models. Further details will be communicated at a future date.
Per standard application regeneration policies, KRS must have a record of all or part of
the applications enabled on the source BCM system. If this is not the case, proof of
purchase of the applications enabled on the source BCM system will be required. If this is
not available, only those software licenses on record in KRS for the source MSC will be
regenerated to the new BCM system.

Required Information
Partners utilizing this capability will be required to have access to KRS, have the source
system and destination system MSCID, and have purchased the Application Migration
Authorization keycode from the Global Product and Pricing Catalog (GPPC).
An RMA (Return Material Authorization) will be required as return of either the source
MSC or System (with MSC card) will be required to avoid charges for equivalent
application capability costs.

Process Flow
The solution entails purchasing an Application Migration authorization keycode via standard
catalog ordering procedures, and utilizing this keycode in conjunction with KRS to provide
regeneration of application capabilities between BCM systems for a given customer.

Note that this process is currently available for BCM1000, BCM200 and BCM400 systems
only. Also, only migrations between BCM systems in the same family are allowed for a
given customer. Migrations between BCM50 and BCM200/400 platforms are not supported.
Nortel will continue to support software license migration for disaster recover scenarios
without the requirement to purchase a migration authorization keycode.
In either case of disaster recovery or keycode migration, regeneration of
keycodes will require either an MSC card or BCM system return to avoid
charges for keycoded capabilities on the source platform. Please follow RMA
instructions available on the GPPC web site.

User is provided information on how to obtain an RMA and how
to return merchandise
User is presented with process acceptance checkbox
User is asked to enter their purchased Application Migration
Authorization Keycode
User then is asked to enter source and destination MSCID
KRS performs the regeneration of the application capabilities to
the new MSCID
