I'm trying to do a backup on a BCM 3.7. For some reason Telephony won't backup. I keep getting this error in the Report.rep file:

Downloading data from media services card. Attempt 2 ...
The 'Backup' of the 'System programming' option has FAILED (Reason: internal error.)
**Error: Telephony backup file d:\Data Files\Nortel Networks\Voice Solution\Backups \Fnvram.new could not be found.
[2:02p 08/05/2007] Stop Telephony

Has anyone seen this before or have any idea how to correct this?

Thanks for the help.

I would try doing a platform initialization and then attempting the backup again, or first a simple reboot if you have not attempted this yet. It appears to be a problem with the MSC and if this does not resolve it, you will probably need to replace it.

I've tried rebooting with no luck. I even powered down and reseated the MSC-also no good. Won't a platform initialization wipe out all the data stored on the MSC? The whole point of me trying to do the backup is so that I don't lose that data. This system just keeps rebooting every couple of weeks, and I want to replace the whole thing without having to reprogram it. It seems obvious that the MSC is an issue, but there has to be a way to recover that data.

Platform initialization will not wipe out your data. It just re-writes the core software to the card.

Ok. Thanks. I think I'll try it on my lab system first. Just in case.
