I have a BCM 200 3.6 system with what I assume is a faulty hard drive since I can't get the management web page to come up after numerous reboots.
Anyway my question is, and assuming I don't mind starting from scratch since I don't have a good back up anyway, can I scrap the 3.6 HDD and replace it with a 4.0 and just go from there as I would if I received a new system?

TIA

No as your keycodes will still be in the 3.x format and KRS will still have your system registered as a 3.6 in the database. Purchase the 4.0 upgrade kit and then generate the new keycode which will update the KRS and change your existing keycodes into the new 4.0 format.

Even if you could get your Key Codes generated with the purchase of an upgrade kit do not install the 4.0 drive as part of the 3.6 or 3.7 to 4.0 upgrade procedure does an upgrade of the Bios on the Base Function Tray. If you go to 4.0 with a new drive your Bios will not be upgraded.
I have heard that Nortel could be coming out with a Bios only upgrade so that you can just put in a new 4.0 drive.
A lot easier if you don't mind re-programming.

Look in Major Release under "Bios update for Bcm 4.0 GA".

It would be good if they made a migration utility seperate, this way you could get a formatted HD, upgrade the bios and then restore from a backup that was migrated with the utility.

Man I should invent that.
To bad im not that smart.

None I've got the same problem as described in this thread.

Dis you guys try connecting with a null modem cable to the rs232 port on the face.
Can you telnet into it.

I can telnet to it and can connect via null modem. Just HTTP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:6300 doesn't work. Rebooted a number of times with no success.
BFT was defective and was replaced within the last 6 months.

It should be 6800 not 6300, but u don't need it on a 3.6. Onlu 3.0 and earlier.
