I followed the docs, still cannot get a backup started. I keep getting "unknown user/bad password".

"morgansdad stole my signature

or now i am getting "permission denied!"

EVERYTHING has to be exact. Double and triple check all of your settings. I have worked with IT guys on backups and they even had trouble getting the right info. Take a breather and check again.

When you setup your volume admin,

1.logical name is simply the name you are going to give this backup location.

2.location would be the shared folder on your desktop

ex . \\<IP_address>\shared_folder

!must have two slashes at start!

3. last one is the name or domain of your pc that the backup is going to.

domain_name\user_name
or
computer_name\user_name

then when you start the back-up the password it is asking is for the pc not for the BCM.

also ensure your shared folder on your pc has permissions for everyone to access.

Hope this helps.

This is if your trying to do the backup to your PC.

Also you must ahve share turned on for that directory.

you user the same user/password as you would to logi on your PC

Works good with the local user account of the pc.

I had similar problems.

I found the trick is to use the local machine name (rather than network name, as you would assume)and password
