I think the MSC may have or be failing. The 6 ctr LEDS are flashing. Vmail is down, Sets are up, users can't retrieve parked calls, have had issue transfering calls, etc.

Did a system shutdown and all seemed well until it crashed again while trying to do a backup. Tried powering down system again & bringing back up but no change.

Can I swap out a 3.5 MSC w/ a 3.7 MSC and still keep the harddrive so I don't have to reprogram everything?

Check the base function tray for failing capacitors. That might be causing the reset issues. Could also be a MSC card that is failing. Check Nortel product bullitens 200500652 for the BFT, and 200500651 for the MSC.

If you swap the MSC you will need to regenerate keycodes. If the hard drive version and MSC version don't match, you'll have problems. If you follow the MSC replacement guidelines, you'll be fine as you can restore your existing telephony programming to a new MSC. But, you'll have to have a good backup ahead of time.

So it'll be ok even if one was 3.5 & the other 3.7 once I do a restore?

Any s/w issues to worry about if I pull a BFT from a 3.7 system to go into a 3.5 system?

No just swap the MCS card to the new BFT and it will still be a 3.5 with the same programming.

Thx for the info guys. Turns out BFT had the defective capacitors. Only issue now is I keep getting an error 1202 when trying to do a backup.

Error 1202:

"An attempt was made to remember a device that had been previously been remembered"

Tried doing a reboot but no change.

Ever encounter this?

Delete the volume you're backing up to and recreate the volume. Sounds like there's a drive mapping issue somewhere. I've run into that before. Unfortunately, it doesn't always go away on it's own.

Thx Biv. I removed the volume, did a reboot and it still didn't work. I eventually went in on the local vol (E), then cancelled it once I got to the window that asked to rename "report 1". I then created a vol for the remote drive and it worked.

I now have to visit 7 other sites that most likely use the defective caps and get the BFT replaced.

There a scan utility that you can run on each BCM 200 and 400 to see if they have the problem. I have 60 sites and i'm just starting to scan each one as I have replaced about 6 BCM 1000 motherboards and 7 BCM 400 BFT.
