I have a BCM 400 running 3.01 software and am trying to get it to 4.0 by just replacing the hard drive with a 4.0 hard drive. Do not want to try to upgrade all the way due to the past failure's in upgrading the BCM's. When I drop the 4.0 hard drive into the BCM 400 it will never come back up. I called Nortel and they said cannot be done need to be at 3.6. But you can take a BCM 1000 running 2.5 and drop in a hard drive and it will work. Page 38 of the upgrade guide. I would think you could just drop the hard drive in and it should come back up. Granted programming will be lost. Has anybody else tried this?

not tried with a 4.0 - but have in earlier systems
did you try to see if there is an option for reloading the msc from the command line (from what i remember it's NOT possible in a 4.0)

Never could get that far. After dropping in the hard drive it beeps one time and all the lights start flashing except power(steady light) and hard drive(no activity). I don't think you can get to a command line on 4.0.
