Hi - I've just learned that I've "inherited" a Nortel BCM 200. As far as I know, its version 2.5.

It's working fine, but my problem is that it's on a different subnet, and I cannot ping - and thus reach - the device. I can get to our router and Cisco switch for that location, and there are no ACL's that are stopping me. Furthermore, I can ping the device and my local gateway from that location's Cisco switch and the router. Thus, my only conclusion is that someone configured this device without a gateway or with a gateway "back-in-the-day" that no longer exists (I'm guessing the latter)

I'm able to reach the device with a VNC connection to a workstation on its subnet. I've gone into the system admin & mgmt, setup & mgmt wizards, CP manager and Product Maintenance & Support. None of those let me change the gateway. Am I looking in the right spot or did I not dig far enough?

Any help would be great.

OK - I think I'm closer....

I'm in BCM > Configure > Resources > LAN. I cannot see where to add a gateway address to LAN 1. If I go back to LAN Parameters, Fast Routing Between LAN's & Decremental TTL are both disabled. Is this it? If I set both to enabled can I add a gateway address? Do I need a reboot? Anything else?

You need to know if it's LAN 1 or 2. Changes under LAN are below the screen you are talking about.

In the bcm there was on the main screen a network update menu. 2.5 not sure.

Use the network wizard. Not sure if it was available on 2.5 but I know it was on 3.x. Startup Unified Mgr and instead of clicking on Config click Wizards.

You can set the gateway adress using Unified manager, under "Services","Next Link Mgr" and in the third tab(Permanent Wan Connection Setting) you will set it under "Next hop on primary link".

gberger - Thanks. That was it. It's asking for a reboot. If I go to Diagnostics > MSC, the Configuration pull down link has a "Warm Reset" option. Is that what I want or is it someplace else?

No---just click on SYSTEM- (top menu) TOOLS- (Dropdown Menu)
REBOOT.
it will ask are you sure ?
press yes.
REBOOT takes at least 6 minutes and stops call centre and voicemail.
Allow another minute afterwards if you want to reconnect again to check settings.

snowman50 - Thanks, I found what you meant. So last question...

This BCM is on the back end of a PTP T1 to another location running an Option 11. If I reboot the BCM, will the T1 come back up on its own, or do I neet to reset the T1 on both ends?

80% chance, no issues.
17% chance, Option 11 issues.
3% chance, BCM issue.

On the few Bcm-M1 combination we sold, i never had to reboot the M1 portion when i was rebooting the Bcm.I guess since the telephony doesnt go down on a reboot explains it.
Could be different on a complete shutdown or if it's a Bcm450.
