We have an old, rarely used laboratory BCM 200 that has disappeared from our network; It's IP address can no longer be reached.

We connected to the BCM with a laptop using a serial to USB cable and a null modem.
Running PuTTY lets us login with the default password but results in the Nortel Networks / BCM header only - no menu below the dashed line - just an empty black screen!
We also tried ee_admin / eedge and got the same result.
So we cannot access the BCM.

I wanted to access Avaya's KRS to see if there are any Keycodes of value in the box but we no longer have the SysID!

Is there any way to retreive the System ID from the box?
Or, is there any other way to "fix" the missing menu after login?

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like your hard drive has gone on a permanent holiday. You can try a reboot with your laptop connected and also a terminal connected to the VGA connector and see if it is booting up properly.

If it doesn't come up, look for another drive.

If you plug in a mouse, keyboard and monitor onto the front of the BCM. Power it up and I think you will briefly see the site ID appear on the screen.

I'm sure I spotted this once when I was playing with my lab BCM 1000 system.

Also, you could check the capacitors in case some have gone faulty.

Finally, plug the hard drive via e.g. a USB to IDC connector to see if another computer can read the disk OK.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

The KRS also uses the S/N on the back label, it's tied to the SYS ID.

You could simply pull the BFT out and flip it over. On the underside of the MSC card will be a sticker with the SID on it.
