My customer has multiple BCM 200 systems. I am testing and re-programming for future use. I have one that I powered up, phones work, I can call in and out. I try to connect with my laptop with no success. I change my IP address to 10.10.10.200 (255.255.255.0) for Lan 1, opened Internet Explorer, type in address bar, 10.10.10.1 - nothing. Same for Lan 2 (my PC 10.10.11.200 - IE address 10.10.11.1) No luck.
I go to Command Prompt on my PC. Verify my IP Address. I can ping 10.10.10.1

Typically I get the BCMs and they have their network setting on LAN 1. I cannot ping 10.10.11.1 at all (My PC 10.10.11.200)

If I can ping 10.10.10.1 then I should be able to access the programing, right?

What could be the problem?
The system "works", so that should rule out any hard drive problem. I can ping the system. LAN port should be could.

Any thoughts?

Thank You.

Could be a FAULTY base function tray.
Open it up and see if the Capacitors are GREEN and also check if they have BUBBLED UP.

This is a common problem with certian motherboards.

See threads relating to motherboard problems.

Take off the front cover to expose the 9 way RS232 serial port. Connect this to a standard computer comm port with 8 1 9600 baud and see if you get a login option. If so then try this using Logins of e.g. ee_admin or supervisor etc for the 3.x versions. The default password for supervisor is
different to the one for ee_admin!.
(I don't think this method will work on the 4.0 versions?).

Anyway, if you can log in, then a menu will appear and you can view, change the IP settings.

Good luck!.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Make sure that you try applying the Apache_Tool_Wizard for BCM 3.6 as it could be a certificate error.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I was able to get into the system throught the serial port. I was able to get the IP Address from both LAN ports. I cannot access either one. My IT guy had a thought. He wondered if it could be Internet Explorer 8 causing a compatibility problem. But I don't think the BCM is running correctly. The system status lights never go completely green.

I have solid green lights on POWER, TEMP & FAN.

I have no lights on DISK

I have green blinking lights on STATUS, MSC, WAN, MODEM, LAN1, & LAN2. (No device driver is what my book says)

I am talking with the company's tech support tomorrow.
This system was in their warehouse for a while, with good reason.

I will post again tomorrow.

Thank you.

What I would recommend you do now, is to remove the hard disk from the BCM system and connect it as another drive onto a different computer running Windows 2000 onwards to see if the disk is faulty etc.

I personally use a IDE to USB connection to carry out these tests and any form of disk imaging. At least this way, you will have some idea of the disk status.

Agree with Snowman - sounds like a base function tray issue. You should have a vendor check it. BTW, I use IE 8 on a BCM400 3.6 with no problems. It is fully patched, of course.

Well the good news is that they are sending a replacement system. So, its not going to be my headache anymore.

The bad news is not knowing what it was. I will keep in touch with their tech support to see if they find out the problem. I will post again if they let me know the resolution.

I very much appreciate everyone taking the time to lend their ideas to me and this problem. One of the fun things about this site for me is finding out new and unusual problems, and the solutions.

I will keep you posted. Thank you very much.

My vote is for the certificate error and the apache patch. I've had 2 of these exact problems in the last three months.
