I am looking for a recommended hard drive for the BCM. As most BCM folks know the Maxtor drives were Junk, They replaced them with Seagate 80G drives and Now AVAYA does not sell any replacement drives for this dead product. We still have a ton of old BCM's 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 and 4.0 in the field.

You might want to find the Nortel BIT Imaging Tool so you can image new drives yourself. I've always assumed it's available on Ebay?

I have the image tool. I am looking for a recommendation on a readily available drive that I can get on an as needed basis. I don't want to shop eBay every time I need a drive. I have several old BCM's in my customer base.

Guys,

I have the imaging tool, I know how to use it very well and have been using it for years. What I am looking for is a recommendation on a specific BLANK Drive that others have been using on a regular basis in place of the Seagate that AVAYA/Nortel no longer sells.

Although I tend to use Acronis or WinHex these days, the IDE disks I've used for the BCM 200/400 range are the
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80 Gig ones.
I still use the Maxtor 20.4 Gig Fireball 3 ATA/133 HDD, or Maxtor 20 Gig Ultra ATA/100 on my lab systems.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

The Maxtor are Residential Grade Drive's and fail often. The Seagate is no longer sold by AVAYA as a spare parts item. I don't want to buy drives off Ebay. I am an AVAYA partner who has been left yet again high and dry by AVAYA in the elimination of spare parts to a good product. I need a supplier who can furnish me the same BLANK drive every time I need one and that is decent quality and will work in the 200/400. I still have a hundred or so older BCM's in the field. I am upgrading them as quickly as the customers have the money but I still need drives.

I am not aware that Nortel or Avaya sold BLANK drives, this is why they provided the tools for you to do it yourself.
You can get Hard drives from everywhere.

Are you just looking for good hard drives? or for a supplier you can purchase them from on a regular basis? and you just want them blank? no software?

Makes more sense to me to create your own different releases then simply copy/image those drives to new HD as needed or make as many as you see fit.

Curlycord,

I am an Authorized Nortel/Avaya distributor and have been working on the BCM since 0.92 software (Beta Enterprise Edge)so I am very familiar with the product and how to maintain it. Nortel/Avaya sold Replacement pre-imaged (3.6 thru 4.0)and replacement blank Hard Drives for the 200/400 product until a couple months ago. It was the Seagate 80G drive. Prior to that it was the POS Maxtor residential grade drive. That was my supplier for Drives. Now I do not have a supplier.

I am looking for a recommendation from the many people who are on this forum of a drive they have used and is readily available from a supplier like CDW or PC connection. I can't have my ordering department shopping a different supplier and Ebay for Drives.

We always image the drives ourselves and have hot standby's of 3.6,3.7.4.0 at all times.
