I have a old BCM 1000 that wont boot the NT side. It does get to the very first NT screen where it shows the memory count (256MB), but then it sits there and a small dot will come up every 5 minutes or so (like it is waiting for something). Only the fan, power, temp and HDD LED's are lit, but the HDD light is solid, it never blinks off. The other lights (status and lights 1-5) remain dark. The MSC seems to be ok, all of the phone functions work. I am hoping they junk this beast and get a BCM 50, but I doubt it(they have a service contract with us). Is this a motherboard issue? or could it be a HDD, PEC or MSC issue....any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check the caps on the system board. If they are green, you may have a bad board. I would guess that the problem would have appeared by now if it was a system board issue. If the connectors on the front of the system board (behind the drop down door) are black, its a suspect board. If you see yellow and purple connectors, then that system board didn't have the capacitor issue.

If the HD light is on solid, I would suspect a failing hard drive. Sounds like it may have developed bad sectors and the drive is getting read errors. Do you ever get to the point where you can log in via a serial cable?

Biv, Thanks for your reply...The system board has the purple and green connectors, so it probaly is not a cap issue. I did try to get in via serial cable, but I had nothing come up. As I type this I just replaced a HDD on a different BCM,and I noticed that there are much more dots under the inital NT screen than I got with the bcm I posted about before, so I bet you are right...I ordered a HDD...hopefully that works.
