I have a customer who is going to be upgrading their current BCM 1000 R4.0 to a BCM 450 R1.0. They are telling me the AT&T rep told them they can migrate their programming from the 1000 to the 450. Is this possible? I thought a change of platforms required a reprogram.

There's a migration tool for 200/400 but not sure about the 1000

Dasheen is absolutely right. You can use DMM (Data Migration Manager) to extract data from a 200/400. The DMM user guides does mention that 1000 is a supported source platform, however the Upgrade guide makes no mention of a 1000. I've never upgraded 1000 to 450. It's probably best if you clarify this with Nortel. 1000 platform is end of life, so I think you won't get any help.

i.e. for a 1000, I'd probably just go ahead and reconfigure it, especially with the problems I've had recently with DMM.

As of Dec 2009 Data Migration Tools supports BCM200/400/1000 chassis as source for a 450 as target.

Tight out of the latest Data Migration Manager User Guide. Chapter 3 Page 12.

Thanks for the input guys. I personally would rather reconfigure since they are changing out all their T7316e sets for 1140e sets and most of that programming isn't coming over any way. But who wants to listen to me I'm just a lowly technician with 2 dozen Nortel certs who has been working in this industry since I'm 17. I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about
