Hi!!

My first post!!

I am using a BCM 1000 with Nortel Voicemail Manager software.
Everything was fine and dandy until yesterday when I tried to log into the voice manager software and the adminstrator password will no longer be accepted. I may have inadvertantly reset the password to default (0000 is not accepted) - failing that I have no idea.

I am the only person with access to this software so nobody else could have changed it and not told me!!

Can the voicemail manger adminstrator password be rest from the BCM user interface?

Any advice appreciated!!

Thanks in advance - James.

It can be done through a system phone using F985, but passwords are not allowed here. Do a search for resetting the System Manager password for any Norstar voicemail and you'll have your answer.

Yes can easily be reset, look into BCM NTP it has your reset process there using Feature 985

Just in case anybody else has this issue :)

TO RESET SYSTEM COORDINATOR PASSWORD

1. Press Feature 985
2. Press 9
3. Enter Resetsmpswd (73738767793)
4. Press OK
5. Press YES
(Password Resets to 102 0000)

apparently, you didn't read exsmoggers post about not posting passwords.

This is his first time posting, I guess we can forgive him.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Hi - whoops!! I did read exsmoggers post and assumed that he was referring to F985 and passwords not being allowed there.

Mods feel free to delete and apologies for any problems caused. I googled this answer anyway so I haven't revealed anything not freely available on the web.

This seems like a good time to ask, why is password revelation an issue?

Ok gave me your credit card number and your pin and in about a week I'll get back to you with the answer.

Understand now?

By giving out passwords, you could go into a store and change the password in the system.

imho

if its available on the web then anyone who doesn't already know it can go hunting for it. this is not a repsitory of that type of info.

Thanks Ace, for clarification because I don't want to make any mistakes, would telling somebody how to default a system be equivalent.

In other words describing the hardware process on a BCM50 or the Startup process on a Norstar be as dangerous? and forbidden?

Maybe not as bad, as the person would need physicial access to the system to use the reset. Remember you don't know the person asking the question and you don't really know what there going to do with it.
