Along with a small number of other users, my 6230 suddenly stopped synching. When I launch Desktop Mgr, I connect to my email, recognize the connected handheld, and synch the email. Then it tells me it found a New Configuration File and Desktop Mgr then crashes with an abnormal error. Also, when I try to Configure PIM, it crashes with the same error.

I have updated to the latest desktop and handheld software to no avail. I can sync on another PC with no problem.

I did notice that under the Research in Motion\Blackberry folder I do not have a .CFG folder with the PIN number. Don't know when that left me.

I am an admin on the PC and I have 80 users with the same or older software who have no problem. Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks.

Paul

Steps I would try, in order.

1. Generate another encryption key manually
2. Empty out the Intellisync folder located under C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Intellisync and resync.
3. Uninstall the BDM completely, making sure the Intellisync folders are also empty and that no keys are left in the registry.
4. Recreate your email profile

Thanks for the reply. Most of this I have already tried with no luck. There is something about the configuration it does not understand and therefore is treating it as a new config. So far the only way we have found to resolve the issue for users is to give them a new PC -- not very efficient, but it gets them syncing again. Fortunately, wireless calendar still works, and that is very important for the attorneys I support. I can take their handhelds to another PC and sync for them when necessary.

Step #2, which I was given here, as a matter of fact, has resolved this type of problem almost everytime.

I just wanted to make sure that it was, in fact, one of the resolutions you had attempted before continuing.

Is that the case?

Yes, I have done #2 on your list. And, I understand why it should work. Unfortunately, when next I sync it tells me it found a new config and then aborts with the abnormal error message.

I am going to try something else later today and I'll let you know if I am successful.

Paul

Well, I tried to fool the PC by taking files from another computer where I successfully synched. Since all these machines are (originally) cloned from the same master, I was hoping to bypass whatever that corrupted file is.

No such luck.

This is one strange problem...

I'm guessing you are using a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Have you tried to kill/reset the handheld remotely before reloading it?

Did the kill/reset and still no sync. It will set the time, do the email, then bombs out on Tasks. Thanks, GreenW.

On Tasks only?

Does the sync log repport a specific error?

In doing research on this I am finding we are not alone, seems others have experienced the same problem. Here are a couple of lines from the Pttrace.log file from yet another user who just reported this problem.

Thu Jul 22 10:02:16 2004: Error CoCreateInstance - failed on IID_IConnectorManager.4005 at D:\Mav1039513.82_17\core\sync_sdk\ilsdk\callback.cpp line 2301
Thu Jul 22 10:02:16 2004: Error C:\DOCUME~1\dm11608\APPLIC~1\RESEAR~1\BLACKB~1\Intellisync\200a90fd.CFG\tables.itb could not be read.9 at D:\Mav1039513.82_17\core\gen_libs\iluptbl\iluptbl.cpp line 630

I've compared folders and log files of those who have no problem and those who do, and can find nothing to lead to a conclusion. In followng suggestions form other sites, I have deleted the tables files and deleted all Tasks on both sides, nothing helped.

Again, thanks for putting time in on this.

GreenW, I wanted to bring some closure to this item. I have been working with (ever escalating) RIM tech suport on this and we have found a resolution that might also help others. Please see my original post on the general symptoms of this problem.

We found that a reg hack has resolved the issue for the majority of our users. With Desktop Manager closed, in regedit search for the string

{61073911-D725-11D2-BBAB-00105A0D3A46}

and delete it (after exporting just to have a backup).

Quite honestly, I am not sure what this entry is supposed to do nor why it is not needed, but it allows my users to synch and go into Configure PIM which is the intended result.

I know the same or similar situations have also been reported on other sites, so I hope this helps anyone else who has similar symptoms.
