hi!

I have a stack (5 baystack450, firmware 4.2.0.12) which is makeing big problems.
Sometimes I cannnt ping or telnet into it. (but it is switching normaly)
Some users are telling me that they sometimes (once, twice a day) lose their connections.
On 4 switches I found this entry in the eventlog:

Entry Number: 457 sysUpTime: 01:32:26 Reset Count: 50
An operational exception occurred at vector number 3.
[SP+0] 2000000B [SP+3] 000E0E02
[SP+1] 84F4C00C [SP+4] 000B84F2
[SP+2] 00961B1D [SP+5] 00080225

Could your tell me what this means?
Or where can i find troubleshooting-documents?

Any help is welcome.

thanks,
mewi

it is telling you where in the firmware it was when it rebooted (SP is stack pointer) this is not very helpful outside Nortels labs.

Nortel has a newer version of the 450 code 4.2.0.22, or you may wish to retreat to 3.1

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Make sure that the checkboxes "Discard untagged frames" och "discard tagged frames" in the VLAN menu in Device Manager aren't checked. This is a problem Ive experienced after upgrading a few 450's. It can cause quite a few problem, dont know if you're aware of this prob.

hi,

thanks for all your answers,
I think i´ve solved the problem.

I updated the stack to 4.2.0.22
and I replaced 1 switch.

since this moment the stack is running without peoblems.

I find it is 'always' port 5, do you also find that port 5 often reboots to having 'discard untagged frames' checked?

Yeah! If there is any port with that checked, its always port 5!!
