Ok.. I'm about scream but instead I'll post.....

Here is the deal I have a main bulding with a 450 switch stack that has a 400-2fx in one of the switches.... (the second port in the 400-2fx isnt used)

from that MDA there is a fiber line that runs TO this baystack 350 with another 400-2fx MDA modlue... That link works fine...

Since the 400-2FX has 2 100Mbps fiber links on it.. I have the other link running to a third building...

in this third building I have a single 450 switch with another 400-2fx MDA...

so to sum up:

Building1 Stack 450's
400-2FX (only one port used)
Building2 350
400-2FX (both ports used)
Buidling3 450
400-2FX (only one port used)

...now my problem is the second link from building 2 to building 3 isnt working quite right!

The link light is shown in building 3 but not in building 2 (on the second port)

and to confirm the weirdness for buidling 3s switch it confirms the port being up... Building 2's switch confirms the link to building 1 but not the link to building 3...

..could this be the fiber?
...is there some special config I need to setup to use both ports on the 400-2fx?
.....or will I just go insane?

tnx for your help as always...

(this is true in copper as well just subsitute one pair for one fiber)

When you have a fiber connection, one fiber transmits one direction, the other fiber transmits the opposite direction. the link light will come on if the port is receiving link pulses. in your case one of the two fibers is working and you have link in one direction, but not the other. (it could be the LED, the jumper, the cable the other jumper or the receiver that is bad, try swapping out parts you have spares of)

The only software setting to make is to be sure both ports one on each 450, are set to the same duplex (Full is better than Half, but the important point is the SAME)

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

here is what I tried to solve the problem...

I swapped the 2 MDAs in both building 2 and 3...

oddly the same thing happend .. where for buidling 2 the link to building 1 worked but not to 3.. and building 3 had status up on the port...

very weird.. which is why I question the cable.. but I'm thinkin with fiber its all or nothing? ..like I said I'm clueless

So it is not the LED or the Receiver cause you swapped them out, that leaves a jumper at each end and the cable. Are there unsed fibersin the cable you could try? do you have any spare jumpers?

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

thats what I'm planning on tryin tomorrow... tnx for your help.. I'll post what happends just for referance!

grr it was a bad fiber line....

tnx for your help
