I am losing pings on my monitoring software and all 470 switches within the network. The users are not noticing any down time, but I am wondering if anyone else has or is having this problem and if so is there a solution? I have been in contact with Nortel support but as yet there is no resolution.
 
Are you running SMLT? Or any other MLT. There is a IGMP bug causing unstable switch management. This will be fixed in the BoSS code 3.0.6. To make a workaround on this, either disable IGMP on the management VLAN on the 470, or enable it in the core on the PP8600's.
