Are the 450 switches in a hot place ? Or not air conditioned ? I have seen this problem before where they get about 35 degress (95f).

Had simialar problem w/450 stacks in temps over 75f.
Cooled them down problem went away.

that realy seems to be the problem...

the stack work´s in an environement with
temperatures about 35-40 degress...

thanx...bernhard

Sir,
The 450 etherswitch was really designed as a closet or edge type device . It is very possible that the switch is being overrun. If there is heavy traffic thru this device you may want to replace it with an Passport 8100. If this is not the case then I would replace the base unit in the stack.

I've seen this on the 350's which was a reported bug and fixed with an upgrade. Maybe the same issue?

We as a company have been having endless problems with the Baystack 450T globally ever since we purchased these devices about two years ago. They do not work as advertised I'm afraid. Specifications say you can 'slot' them up to eight and still be snmp managable. In your dreams!! It has huge problems handling mac addresses, with spurious messages and even hard resets do not cure the problem. It has been emberressing from a Network Ops situation and costly as consultants have been brought in to try and resolve this situation. Changes in firmware and software do nothing to help the situation. Management software we use is Spectrum.

Hmmm I have been using 50+ 450s since 1998 and have no major hassles (my largest stack is 7, most are 3) some times on power failure, port 5 goes whacky I have noticed that.

My Management software is Optivity Switch manager. Version 4 firmware was slower than version 3 until the latest release.

Other than looking in ARP tables to track a MAC address down to a port, I have not done any MAC specific management. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
