Hey all, I realize this is an "older" switch but it works great except for one small issue--I'm apparently unable to get SNMP activated on it. I've gone in and configured it with the correct community name but when I run NMAP on the switch port 161 doesn't show up. If I run a MIB scan the Credentials Test passes but when I do the scan I get a "Device does not respond to SNMP queries." Is there an activation routine for SNMP on this switch? I've tried Googling for a manual but no joy there either.

Thanks,

Joe B

I used to have a whole bunch of BayStack 350s and used SNMP without issues... in addition to the SNMP community you might need to configure the IPs allowed to connect. I remember there was a menu for that but don't recall what the defaults were.

Hi anthonyanderberg, the community name is entered on the same page as the "allowed" IP addresses:

Read-Only Community String: [ community1 ]
Read-Write Community String: [ community2 ]

Trap #1 IP Address: [ 192.168.xx.xxx ]
Community String: [ community1 ]
Trap #2 IP Address: [ 192.168.xx.xxx ]
Community String: [ community2 ]
Trap #3 IP Address: [ 192.168.xx.xxx3 ]
Community String: [ community1 ]
Trap #4 IP Address: [ 192.168.xx.xxx ]
Community String: [ community2 ]

Authentication Trap: [ Enabled ]

I just now noticed the Authentication Trap option. Maybe I'll mess with that and see what happens.

Thanks,

Joe B

Nope, disabling the Authentication Trap didn't help.

Thanks,

Joe B

I had the newer 450-like units, they were nice little switches too... inexpensive and easy to use.

If you enable Authentication Traps do you get any alerts sent to the Trap#1 IPs when trying to query the switch? I usually use the net-snmp.org tools for such things - you might want to give them a try too.
