I bought one of these units used and am wondering what updates I can get for it. It's from around 1998 so it says Bay Networks on it instead of Nortel. I found some info in the setup that says HW: RevA FW: V1.30 SW: v1.2.0.11. Thanks.

It is just barely possible you need to upgrade in steps, so I am giving the whole path to all upgrades.

ftp://ftp-support.baynetworks.com/pub/swcode/baystack/ethernet/bs350_12t_24t/

there will be two parts to the upgrade b3504101.img will upgrade the FW: and b3504102.img will upgrade the SW: as an example

themain manual

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Hmm, so I can't jump straight to V4.1? It has a part number of 304300-A REV 04 if that tells you anything?

I have never owned a 350-24T I am just very used to Nortels site.

hints there is only a problem upgrading from version 1.x if you are using tagged ports otherwise you should be able to go straight to 4.1 (4.4 is the current version if you have a support contract, 4.1 is the newest you can get without one

Well, I flashed b3504101.img first then b3504102.img and it seems to have taken them. It now displays FW:V1.48, SW:v4.1.0.6, and ISVN:2. Not sure what the ISVN thing is? I didn't need to worry about tagged ports as I haven't changed anything from the default configuration yet. Thanks for the info.

the ISVN has something to do with compatibility with BPS2000 switches, and is not a worry for a 350-24t. Those seem like the right numbers for FW and SW.

Have you found the Java Device Manager yet? ftp://ftp-support.baynetworks.com/pub/swcode/jdm/v5.3.1/jdm_5310.exe
it is a nice GUI tool to contol a Nortel Switch. It uses Java and may instist you need a Java Runtime Engine, if so ftp://ftp-support.baynetworks.com/pub/swcode/jdm/v5.0/windows/j2re1_3_0-win.exe

Thanks, just like the Transcend software for the old 3COM hubs I have.

Well, no need to answer that. I did the software update since I already had the necessary 1.48 firmware and it took it fine. Question on MLT though. For server to switch MLT this can be done with two NICs in the server, correct? Aside from setting up the ports for MLT on the switch do I need any special software on the server end like NIC teaming or just IP address each NIC?
