I now have the cable to connect to PC and a few of these. I need to access them; reset them and start from scratch to configure them for my networks. Any help guys. Please don't assume anything in your response; anything, that is, about my knowledge. Of course, I can read and write :). Anyway, on the serious note; if there is a step by step guide on doing this, that would be great. The manual says I must contact manufacturer. Except they stopped supporting these two years or so ago.
Thanks for your help.
Michael

What are you trying to accomplish? Just a console session? If so, 9600, 8, n, and 1 for serial settings. DB9 to DB9 straight through cable. Ctrl+Y to begin. Then reset to factory defaults from the menu.
:)

Hungry House; thanks for your response. This is what I'm trying to do: I would like to log into the console or web interface and configure it. Given that I don't know it's password or IP, it probably would be the console that I should log into. How? Please.

I have a 9 PIN cable. Is it that any 9 pin would not work. Must I have a special/particular cable? If I must use a particular cable, where do you suppose I could find one? Could you provide me identifying details for me to look for it online, please?

Is there are software that I must use to log into the console. In other words, how can I log into the console?

Thanks so much. I'm sure with your, I could get this done this week.

Thanks,
Mykel

The console cables for these switches are straight through (not null modem), you should be able to find a combination of cables and gender-changers at a local computer store if you don't have anything handy. Like HH mentioned if you plug in your straight-through cable and power on the switch you should see it booting up... then press Ctrl+Y and you'll either get the main menu or a password prompt.

Not knowing the passwords might be a big problem. We've had a number of discussions on the topic of lost passwords in the past, so you might want to search this newsgroup for 'baystack password'. The 350/450 family is more common, but some of the same advice might apply to your 310s.
