I'm new to working with network equipment outside of servers and workstations. I'm tasked with finding out how many ports on a 5308 Bay Hub are currently valid. When I look at the rack there are three separate hubs with 24 ports each. Of 72 ports only six lights on the hubs are not lit. I traced those six back to a patch panel. These six are connected at the patch panel. How do I determine if the six connections in question are being used or not being used? Is there a way to trace the cables back to a connection block in a particular office? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you move a known active wire to the six ports one at a time, and they light, they are prolly good.

Best way to know which office a patch panel port goes to is to have drawn a map as you installed them, now all you can do is put a toner in the office and probe for it in the patch panel The one thing you can't give for your heart's desire is your heart. - Lois McMaster Bujold
