2400 N81 Bell 212
WinSPM will set the init string, if your modem will accept it. If not, it will just go crazy. There are several previous posts on the subject.
Nice! Your modem was built just before the V.90 standards came in. I KNOW that it supports Bell 212 (and Bell 103). You should have no problem with it whatsoever.
phonesrus is right about the software. You shouldn't have to fudge around in Control Panel or anything crazy like that. WinSPM will initialize your modem for you. If you DO go into Control Panel (and you are running Windows 95/98/ME), please don't check the "Connect only at this speed" box if the bit per second rate is higher than 2400.
Question about your settings? Start WinSPM and choose Settings, then Configure TAPI...(Modems). Pick your modem and follow the prompts.
