I have this lady who brought me her computer to take a look at because she couldn't get it to boot. The bios lost all the settings and it seemed to be a frequent problem (even when replacing batteries). A couple of months later she bought a whole new computer and now the loosing of the bios settings are starting up again. What the "beep" is going on? Does anyone know how to fix the problem. I have never had to replace batteries on mine or customers computers but this lady seems to go through batteries like a fat kid through donuts. Thanks Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

Howdy:

Did you happen to check the CMOS jumper to make sure it wasn't stuck on "dump CMOS" setting??

Murray

haven't tried..the settings stay for a while and then change in about 1 month each time...umm does that sound like the cmos dump problem??? Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

Dear smaxted

I had gone through your problem. It may happen in 2 cases

(1) The jumper setting of the cmos battery not kept properly
(2) If any chipset problem exists, then also it acts to discharge the battery even u put a new one.

In my observation I found that Cyrix Chipset Media GX Mother Boards having this type problem.

Scotty:

Just read your questions again. Are you saying this has happened with TWO different systems she has had??

Murray

yeah this has happend with two different systems she has had...it has happened with an old p2-300mhz pc chips board and now it's happening with an ECS K7S5A system Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

Maybe it's something environmental - her machine is in the freezer, her house is on top of the world's largest magnetized iron deposit, etc?

I'll try invironmental...thanks. Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

That's not a common problem and I doubt it's coincidence that it's now happening on a different system. Were any components moved to the new system from the old?

A friend once had a MAC system with an odd problem and the vendor gave him a brand new system to replace it....same problem. He had a memory upgrade on the original and when they gave him the new system they pulled the extra memory from the old and put it in the new. Guess what the problem was?

Had a neighbour with a problem caused by a SCSI scanner. They didn't identify the problem until he bought a new system, kept the scanner...and the problem.

I hesitate to believe in coincidence.

Good luck. ...wee
