Batch Files for Novell Server

I am seeking some advice.
I work in a Windows environment and we have an automated backup program that we use for our clients in other locations. Most run Windows servers, but a few run Novell servers. The backup program uses a simple batch file with Net Stop and Net Start commands to stop and start a Pervasive.SQL on the Windows server. This apparently does not work the same way with Novell.
I really have no experience with working with Novell but know that we have to use different commands in the batch file to issue the stop and start commands. Any advice on what the proper syntax for stoping and starting services on the Novell server would be really appreciated. The batch file would run from the Windows client.

Thanks!

If you are using the NetWare agent (and you should to be able to do this), you can configure pre and post NCF files. An NCF file is the (in laymans terms) equivalent of a BAT file. In the pre backup NCF file, you would have to issue an unload command to unload the NLM you require unloading. The post backup NCF file would reload the NLM. -----------------------------------------------------

TWF:

You have to be more specific here, what services are you trying to stop on the NetWare servers? Most applications running on a NetWare server will supply the NCF file to unload that application (the equivalent of stopping a service)

Take Pervasive SQL 2000 for example - on a NetWare OS an NCF (equiv to batch file) called BSTART.NCF or MGRSTART.NCF loads all the modules (or NLM) to start the application, and a corresponding BSTOP.NCF or MGRSTOP.NCF will have to be invoked to stop the application.

NetWare requires that the NLM's be unloaded in reverse order of which they were loaded. E.g. if modules were loaded 1. x.nlm 2. y.nlm 3.z.nlm then the NCF file to unload should be 1. unload z.nlm 2. unload y.nlm etc etc.

With NetWare you have to be very careful, since other processes / services can be using the z.nlm and will be affected if its unloaded.

Hope this helps.
