hi everyone,

i have setup an ftp server at my friends computer to exchange files. we are both working on a project involving large files.

The problem i am facing is connecting to the server as he has a dynamic ip so everytime i connect i need to call him to get his ip address.

so i though to my self to write a batch file to do this automatically and automatically send it to my email.

So here what i am trying to do:

write a batch file that gets my external ip address from saves it to a file and then send the file to my email.

I appreciate any help i get,

thanks

Hi beginner222

You could try a free program called Macro Maker it can record your steps and then you can set it to run at anytime you like.

Just have your friend update the dyndns every day and ftp to the dns name, or there are other free prrograms that will update it from your computer (I have never had success in doing this, though...like my Cisco 2620XM router supports ddns, and I have it configured to go out and update it when the IP changes, but it has never worked...

I tried that, and it says the username/password are wrong...well, they're the same ones I have been using for I don't know how long. Does this go to dyndns.org???

I did---installed it and it does NOT work! Not for me, anyway...now does it go to dyndns.org (the program)???

Hi:

I have been using dyndns.org for many years and works allthe time. However, your question regaring the External IP.. It is already in the email. You do not need any program to capture the External IP. Just send empty emails from that pc.
