Sorry for re-entering a question here ... maybe rephrasing the question would help?

We are attempting to use the SCREEN utility from the linux toolbox to allow us to do mission critical changes on an AIX production machine via VPN connections but we are struggling because the SCREEN utility currently only supports VT100 or ANSI terminal emulation and everything on the AIX system is set up to only use WYSE60 emulation. (Yes I realize mission critical changes should be done onsite but in this case it is not open to us as an option)

Could someone please direct us to a FAQ/Document that might describe the differences between WYSE60 and VT100 so we can possibly create a crossover map of WYSE60 to VT100 keys and or offer another suggestion for a utility like Screen.

Thanx in advance for your time

I don't know the answer to your question, but you could considering an IP KVM which allows you to console in over IP.

interesting idea ... however it is not clear to me after just looking at a couple of products listed on the net, how this would solve the issue of a lost connection ... being that we would still have to connect to this device via a VPN ... what stops an AIX login session from dropping if the upstream connection is lost?

The SCREEN utility creates a NOHUP shell in AIX so even if the login session drops, the shell and whatever was started under it stays running ... once a new login session is reestablished to AIX we can then reconnect to that shell and carry on as if no connection was lost.
