Hi, i have a question and need some help.

Our network is a simple flat network, 80 pc's 5 servers a few routers and firewalls.

The entire network range is 192.168.10.0 to 192.168.10.254

We will be testing a new phione system soon and this requires ip addreses, onyl around 10 for now but if we go ahead it will require a ip address for every desktop phone.

So i would like to put the phone system on a seperate ip address, for example 192.168.20.x, however both must be able to talk as the pc network will also be using PC Smart software phones.

Can you please let me know how i can join this ip range to the network. I have simply tried changing a pc's ip address to 192.168.20.20 (use all the existing 192.168.10.x details for the dns, wins, gateway etc ) and i could not ping anything.

Thanks

I know its a basic question but please guys.

Or change the subnet masks to less than /24. Depending on the traffic patterns this might be better or worse than using a router, but either approach will work.

You may want to take a basic course in subnetting. This is what lgarner is talking about, but it's a bit more complex than we can cover here. Good luck.

Thanks guys, i know this was a basic question however i just wanted to get my idea checked if you know what i mean.

I've deided to chagne the mask on our existing network to 255.255.0.0, will need to recreate the scope and that should do me.

Thanks everyone.

All the best
