Hi All,

I am just trying to compare how any application process are running on OPENVMS system's and say HPUNIX system's .I have seen that if i need to stop the processes which are running in OPENVMS then I need to use something like delete not stop .And every time if I need to Start the process then I have to create that process.

I know it may be related to the Application but need clarification :Is it something which is very specific to OPENVMS as we don't do these kind of things on HPUNIX.

I would appreciate if someone can clarify this.

Thanks and Rgds,

Mudit

Mudit,
This is definitely in the category of "bigger than a bread box" to give you any kind of answer that will help you in the long run.
For what it is worth, here are a few hints:
1) OpenVMS is not Unix at all, let alone Digital Unix. So, I think your question is off topic for this thread.
2) I don't know who told you to use "delete" instead of "stop", but there is a stop command within VMS to stop a process. However, if something is running in a batch queue (not something you run into a lot in the Unix world), you can either stop the entire queue or delete a job from it.
3) If you don't understand the basic concepts of OpenVMS such that you didn't know about stopping/deleting processes, I would STRONGLY suggest you leave the programming/ administration of that server to someone who does. You are more likely to harm than help by trying to apply your Unix knowledge on it.

Sorry, but I think the safest thing to do is stay "hands off" until you have had some VMS training.
